We are proud to offer a highly decorative and exquisite high-quality strong quill/porcupine Anglo-Indian open casket dating 1870-1900. A piece of Fine art made of ebony standing on bone feet and handcrafted intricately inlaid with bone. Still with its original brass handle, hinges and lock and key. Inlaid with a highly decorative elephant motif and name MATARA across its inside lid which is the capital of Ceylon. Recently uncovered in a country house auction sale in England, untouched in form and very well constructed as piece of Fine art. Dimensions in inches: H 5 x W 10.5 x D 7 Origin: Sri Lanka Period: 1870-1900 Condition: Structurally secure, a few bone details are misses across the decorative pattern as shown in the close-up photos provided. Natural patination across the Quill/Porcupine sections due to its age. This item is over 100 years old and this is reflected in their look as shown in the photos provided.
