Crow Ceremonial Shield with Cover



Crow shield with cover. The cover made in the old style for ceremonial use. The shield has holes around perimeter where it was tied down over a hole in the ground with smoldering coals underneath to harden. It also shows where it was hit with one arrow. The cover is brain tanned hide, very graphic, with turkey feathers. It has two medicine bundles with hawk bells and feather fluffs, Native dyes. Period: Shield 19th Century, Cover Mid-20th century Origin: Crow Size: 21" D.
