Swedish Gustavian Period Carved and Polychrome Painted Signed Mora Clock
By Mora
Located in Wiscasset, ME
One of the finest signed examples of a late 18th century Swedish Mora long case clock that we have seen. The decorative carving is exquisite and the paint is early and probably original. The movement does function, but would have to be set after delivery. A top respected clock conservator did go over the movement to assure functionality. The original weights and pendulum are included, as well as a key. Gustavian Mora clocks are a type of long case clock which were made in, and derived their name from, the town of Mora in Dalarna province, Sweden. Production began in the late 18th century and continued through most of the 19th century. Mora clock faces...

1890s Whitewashed Church Pew
Located in New Rochelle, NY
We love the look of church pews. This pew was acquired from the Philadelphia area. They have a modernist and simple feel that can easily fit into almost any decor. Likely crafted in the late 1800s or very early 1900s. What we really like is the powerful character and patina to the whitewash. The old whitewash being weathered helps to accentuate the simple lines. We can see this church pew in an entryway with a turn of the century painting...

18th Century Galician Brass Hanukkah Lamp Menorah
Located in New York, NY
Cast brass Hanukkah Lamp, Galicia, 18th century. The backplate is cast and pierced featuring dense scrollwork. The side panels fitted with two servant lights, fronted by a row of eight oil fonts. Scholars theorize that these Polish Chanukah Lamps that bear two servant lights (as opposed to the singular servant light normally found on a Chanukah Lamp), served a purpose, having been used on one of the days that Chanukah fell on the Sabbath, as Sabbath Candlesticks. This lamp was made by the technique known as "sand casting". This process begins with a wooden mold that was carved out to create negative space, which in turn is used to make the inverse form or shape to be used for the casting of metal. The mold is pressed into fine sand mixed with clay, then removed, and molten brass poured into the impression. When a mold wears out, a casting from that mold is often used as the mold for the next generation. Those later lamps...
