Regency Mahogany and Ebony Cellarette
About the Item
This mahogany cellarette with ebony inlay and molding shows great style. The sarcophagus form is raised up on boldly carved and dramatic Roman style lion paw feet giving the heavy case a lighter appearance while the flat planes of the sides and top are handsomely accentuated by restrained use of the ebonized trim and the sculptural nature of original bronze lion head pulls, further emphasizes the ancient classical forms so popular in the late 18th century thru to the empire and regency periods.
Originally for the storage of wine bottles and iced beverages this piece would have had a lead or zinc liner which is now lost.
