Dazzling Gebruder Friedlander Sterling Silver Etruscan Soup Tureen

About the Item

This gorgeous tureen was forged by Gebruder Friedlander circa 1875, one of Berlin's most renowned silversmiths at that time. The footed tureen features a chased Greek key pattern that circumscribes the rim of the lid and the body. The handle, feet, and finial of the lid feature a grape vine motif complete with leaves and fruit clusters. The exterior of the tureen is solid Sterling silver, while the inside is gilt. This tureen would make an stunning addition to any dinner table and would undoubtedly beautify any room while not in use. The weight of the tureen is 70 troy ounces, and it was forged from 12 loths of sterling silver. The piece is in mint condition. Dimensions: 13" H X 12" Diameter Germany, circa 1875

    A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver soup tureen; an addition to our silver dining collection This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver soup tureen has a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval domed spreading foot. The surface of this piece is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of on a chapeau turned up a lion rampant supporting an arrow palewise feathered and headed to one side. This antique silver soup tureen retains the original hallmarked push fit cover, surmounted with the original hallmarked detachable shaped scrolling handle with acanthus leaf decoration. The antique silver soup tureen is fitted with thread decorated loop handles with acanthus leaf terminals. Condition This antique silver soup tureen is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. This piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body have wear in keeping with age and location, but all remain legible.
