Antique French Porcelain Soup Tureen 18th Century Made circa 1790

About the Item

This large 18th century French porcelain soup tureen and stand are decorated with a traditional design of red and blue cornflower sprigs. Queen Marie Antoinette's favorite porcelain pattern was the cornflower sprig, or barbeau pattern. The tureen was made by the Clignancourt factory under the royal patronage of Philippe de France, brother of Louis XIV, known as “Monsieur”. The factory made many important pieces for the French royal family. This tureen would look great on an oval table, or a sideboard in a dining room. For a special occasion it could be filled with flowers (see image #2). The underplate of the tureen is marked "M" for "Monsieur".
