Danish Silver Cream Jug & Sugar Bowl by Simon Groth, Copenhagen Circa 1890

About the Item

A very handsome Danish silver (.826 Fine) sugar bowl and cream jug of timeless design. Both showing reeded detail to their rims & bases, together with running bands of neoclassical embossed motifs set against a stippled field, interspersed on either side by a crescent-shaped cartouche. The sugar bowl applied with a finely cast lions mask on either side - the creamer affixed with a neoclassical inspired kylix handle terminating to a palmette motif. Both bearing marks to their exteriors & undersides noting town & date marks for Copenhagen 1890, assay marks for Assay Master Simon Groth (working 1863-1904) and rubbed marks possibly for C. Holm (1893-1937). Simon Groth worked as Assay Master for Dragsted Jewellers & Silversmiths of Copenhagen who were established in 1854 and listed among its commissions the Royal Court of Copenhagen and the Imperial Court of Russia. Combined weight of 16.81 troy ounces Creamer dimensions: 4.5" high x 6.25" wide x 3.5" deep Sugar bowl dimensions: 3.25" high x 5.25" wide x 5.13" deep. .
