About

A set of four cast silver candlesticks London 1749 by William Gould An extremely good set of four cast silver George II table candlesticks of shaped square form with all-over elaborate Rococo decoration of shells, ferns and arabesques. Rising from a fluted flared column to twin knops to an hourglass capital. Conforming sconces. Marked to the underside for London 1749 by William Gould. Also marked to each capital. The bases and sconces are engraved with a crest of a Phoenix. A further crest to each base. The underside of each stick also carries the original scratch weight. These are an extremely unusual set of candlesticks in a very attractive and highly unusual pattern. They are in absolutely original unrestored, undamaged condition with only very minor wear to the high points and the armorials. The marks are clear although the marks to the capitals are worn. Exceptionally good weight of and very robust gauge silver. William Gould was a specialist candlestick maker and these are a wonderful example of his highly skilled silversmithing. Superb colour and patina. Height: 9.75 inches or 24.5 cm Diameter of base: 6 inches or 15 cm Weight: 3364 g or 118 ounces or 107.5 ounces Troy Further high quality images supplied on request.
