James and Josiah Williams Silver Cutlery Service

This astonishing set contains a breathtaking 96 individual silver pieces of cutlery, all individually hallmarked and stamped. Dating from 1859, this English set was manufactured by important silversmiths James and Josiah Williams, sons of Robert Williams. Their Exeter-based firm was the largest manufacturer of silver in England outside of the main silver-making centres of London and Sheffield. The set consists of 12 larger forks, 12 smaller forks, 12 large spoons, 12 smaller spoons, 12 table knives, 12 dessert forks, 12 teaspoons, and 12 serving pieces. Each of the pieces is housed inside a rectangular oak box with two hinged doors at the front, which opens to reveal three drawers containing the dinner service.
