About

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver coffee urn/samovar; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection The alternating concave paneled body of this impressive antique Georgian coffee urn is encompassed with impressive wriggle work decorated borders, in addition to engraved suspended floral festoons accented with a ribbon bow motif to the apex. The alternating concave panelled body of this impressive antique Georgian coffee urn is encompassed with impressive wrigglework decorated borders, in addition to engraved suspended floral festoons accented with a ribbon bow motif to the apex. The festoons to the anterior and posterior panels each incorporate an oval cartouche; the anterior surface depicts the contemporary engraved initials 'HMR' and the posterior remains vacant. The upper portion of the body is further embellished with a band of engraved decoration accented with simplified quatrefoil floral motifs. The anterior surface of the body incorporates a fine and impressive cast spigot accented with ribbed decoration, incorporating the exceptional and original carved incurved shaped handle. This Georgian coffee urn is fitted with a pair of cast silver narrow loop handles with further ribbed decoration to the hand pieces and large impressive leaf decorated upper terminals. This impressive example antique silver retains the original plain domed hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an impressive cast sterling silver ball style finial. The surface of the cover is embellished with a further engraved border, identical to that encompassing the body. The circular pedestal terminates to the square base with a shaped foot reflecting the concave paneled shape of the body. The foot and base of the coffee urn are encompassed with the further engraved decoration. Condition: This antique coffee urn is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. There are some minor surface blemishes as to be expected, in keeping with age. The cast decoration is very sharp and the engraved ornamentation is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body, in addition to part hallmarks to the sleeve of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Dimensions: Height 34.8cm/13.7" Length to front of spout 19cm/7.5" Width across handles 21.1cm/8.3" Weight: 35.8 troy ounces/1113g Maker: Thomas Wallis II Date: 1786 Origin: London, England Video: A video of this fine piece is available upon request.
