Edwardian Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver 13-Piece Vanity Set

About the Item

Edwardian Tiffany & Co sterling silver 13-piece vanity set. This Edwardian sterling silver gentleman's dresser set was made by Tiffany & Company in the early part of the 20th century. The pieces have been finished in an intricate pattern made up of a series of foliate scrolls bordered by stylized bellflowers. The items bear cartouches which have been beautifully monogrammed in script. The dresser set is comprised of 13 pieces and includes a glove stretcher, button hook, shoe horn, hinged and perforated soap case, hairbrush, comb, nail file, handled nail buffer, cuticle tool, garment brushes, hat brush, and a whisk broom. It should be noted that the button hook, nail file and cuticle tool have hollow sterling handles which have been fitted with steel implements. The pieces are all fully hallmarked for Tiffany and have variations of the words "Tiffany & Co Makers - Sterling Silver" along with the letter "M" designating Tiffany director John C Moore II, who served from 1907 - 1947. The measurements and numbers of the items are as follows: The 64g comb is 8" in length, bearing number 8278G. The 61g shoe horn is 6.5" in length, bearing number 15088G. The 114g soap case is 4" x 3", bearing number 17191A. The 71g glove stretcher is 7.5" in length, bearing number 8621G. The 60g handled nail buffer is 5.5" in length, bearing number 17998G. The 163g hair brush is 9" in length, bearing number 6688G. The 166g rectangular garment brush is 7" in length, bearing number 3342G. The 124g rectangular garment brush is 6" in length, bearing number 6877. The 159g whisk is 10.5" in length, bearing number 6414. The 93g hat brush is 6.25" in length, bearing number 7579G. The 33g nail file is 6.75" in length, bearing number 18108G. The 30g button hook is 6.25" in length, bearing number 10910G. The 30g cuticle tool is 5.25" in length, bearing number 18110G. The set has been well cared for and is in good antique condition showing signs of age commensurate with use including minor dents and scratches. The teeth of the comb are all present and the chamois surface of the nail buffer is intact with no tears. The decoration and hallmarks have not been overly rubbed and remain largely clear and distinct. This handsome gentleman's dresser set displays beautifully and would be a fine addition to a collection of antique sterling silver.

  • Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tazza Compote 263B, Grape Motif
    By Georg Jensen
    Located in Cincinnati, OH
Vintage Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza compote with grape motif. This fabulous Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza features Jensen's iconic grape motif, a celebrated range of pieces which were inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic coupled with time the artist spent traveling in Italy. Georg Jensen was born in 1866 and trained as a sculptor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1892. Jensen began his artistic career in ceramics and started working with silver in 1904. He went on to establish his own smithy in Copenhagen and like many others working during the Art Nouveau period, was strongly influenced by natural forms and structure found in flowers and plants. As mentioned above, Jensen spent time in Italy shortly after the turn of the century and developed an appreciation for ancient Roman silver work. He was also struck by the work of more recent Italian artists and was particularly influenced by those pieces which drew upon classical mythology, such as Baroque painter Caravaggio's 'Bacchus'. Jensen combined these influences with emerging Art Nouveau organic motifs, leading him to utilize the malleable qualities of silver to create his renowned Grape Collection. This form of this silver tazza was initially designed by Jensen in 1918. The piece has a round pedestal foot which rises to a thick columnar stem reminiscent of the twisting trunk...
