The anterior surface of the vesta case is embellished with the applied inscription 'Adelphi Theatre, 1906' to the cover and 'With Otho Stuart's Compliments' to the body. The posterior surface of the cover bears the applied inscription 'Souvenir of A Midsummer Night's Dream' The reverse of the case features an impressive embossed scene from a Midsummer Night's Dream Act IV scene I; this scene depicts the character Bottom with the ears of an ass being doted on by Titania. This fine sterling silver vesta case has a hinged cover which incorporates a plain thumbpiece to the anterior edge. There is an integrated serrated panel/match striker to the underside. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and glass matchstriker has a globular form to a circular shaped well. The surface of the glass body is embellished with a serrated texture which composes a match striker. The glass body surmounts an impressive circular shaped dished well, featuring with a raised rounded border with paralleling applied moulded decoration to the rim. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with an oakwood insert to the underside of the base; this insert indicates the high quality of the piece. The underside of the well bears the retailer's mark 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street W', in addition to the full hallmarks.
