Antique 1939 Sterling Silver and Guilloche Enamel Compact

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique 14 carat yellow gold, hot enamel and 0.30 carat diamond compact made by Tiffany & Co - boxed; an addition to our diverse ornamental collection. This exceptional antique 14 carat yellow gold compact case has a rectangular rounded form. The anterior and posterior surfaces of the case are embellished with impressive cream coloured hot enamel, accented with paralleling black borders with incurved corners. The anterior surface of the case is ornamented with an applied oval cartouche, incorporating a ribbon box decorated frame accented with twenty-nine Dutch cut diamonds, totalling 0.30ct. The anterior edge of the compact features a push fit catch ornamented with further black enamel decoration. This impressive antique compact opens to reveal the original integrated mirror and two powder compartments. Each makeup compartment features a flush hinged cover, with a subtle protruding thumbpiece to either side; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the piece. The upper rim of the compact is fitted with an impressive yellow gold chain handpiece, accented with six tubular designs ornamented with further cream and black hot enamel decoration. The interior rim of the antique mirror bears the renowned maker's/retailer's mark 'Tiffany & Co' and the 14ct gold fineness mark (14K). This exceptional Tiffany & Co compact case in gold is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with a satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch; such an example in the original box is rare to the market. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Austrian sterling silver and enamel compact with mirror; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique Austrian sterling silver gilt and enamel compact mirror has a circular rounded form. The surface of the rounded body is embellished with vibrant turquoise blue guilloche enamel, which reflects undulating concentric ring designs emanating from the centre of the underside. The upper rim of the body is encompassed with an impressive silver gilt chased leaf decorated border. This exceptional Austrian box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover, featuring further silver gilt ornamentation to the rim and incorporating a rounded thumbpiece to the anterior surface. The cover is ornamented with an exceptional and collectable enamel scene depicting the SS Orontes* at sea, with a dramatic sun set sky to the background; the lower portion of the scene bears the elucidating title: 'S.S. Orontes'. This impressive compact opens to reveal the original integrated mirror and gilded interior. The maiden voyage of the SS Orontes was a Mediterranean Cruise in June 1929, and the ship furthered its career as a passenger ship operating between England and Australia. During World War II the ship became a troopship, until the end of the war where it was utilised to return Prisoners of War from the Australian camps and back to Europe. The Orontes was refitted in the late 1940s to be used as a single class passenger ship once more, until an unfortunate collision with the SS Empire, where the ship was scrapped in 1962. The anterior and posterior surfaces of the body are embellished with pale blue guilloche enamel, which reflects undulating concentric ring designs emanating from the centres. The circular guilloche panels are encompassed with a chamfered borders ornamented with fine black hot enamel and incorporating stylised gilt silver leaf motifs. This exceptional antique compact is fitted with a hinged cover, featuring a gold wreath design to the centre of the enamel panel and incorporating a rounded thumbpiece to the anterior surface. This impressive compact opens to reveal the original integrated mirror and powder pad, in addition to the original gilded interior. The upper portion of the body features a plain cylindrical neck, fitted with a screw fit cover, allowing access to the incorporates scent bottle.
