About

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Georgian English sterling silver spirit kettle made by William Grundy; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection. His exceptional antique George III sterling silver spirit kettle has a large bulbous shaped form. The body of the spirit kettle on Stand is embellished with exceptional chased fluted ornamentation in a swirl design, accented with a leaf textured design to the upper and lower portion. The bulbous upper portion of each curved segment is embellished with a chased decorated floral and foliate spray emanating from the aforementioned leaf design. This antique spirit kettle is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover encircled with a continuation of fluted ornamentation; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of this piece. Each segment of the cover is embellished with a simplified leaf design to the upper portion and is encompassed with an interlacing border to the rim. The cover is surmounted with the exceptional and original cast sterling silver flame style finial. This exceptional example of Georgian teaware is fitted with an impressive hinged, sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive scrolling and single leaf designs to the terminals, incorporating the original intricately braided wicker covering to the handpiece. The impressive cast silver spout is encompassed with convex fluted decoration accented a scrolling leaf design to the lip. Each leg terminates with a large scrolling leaf decorated foot. The Stand incorporates suspended cast and pierced decorated scrolling leaf decoration with floral spray designs conjoining the legs and incorporates a plain scrolling frame which is fitted with the original silver spirit burner. The spirit kettle Stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs. This exceptional example of Georgian silverware was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith William Grundy. Dimensions: Height to top of handle 36.5cm/14.4".
