Antique English Victorian Sterling Silver and Glass Epergne Candelabrum



Victorian sterling silver epergne candelabrum. Made by Barnard & Sons in London in 1849. Shaped shaft with flange and stepped triangular base terminating in 3 scrolled supports. Raised and large central glass basket in support surrounded on 3 leaf-capped and entwined scroll branches, each terminating in bellied leaf-capped socket. Sockets support small glass baskets. Dense pierced and scrolled leaf ornament. Midcentury ornateness that shimmers by candlelight. Foot has 3 strapwork cartouches of which 2 engraved with armorials. Third engraved with presentation: “Presented / to / Thos Sanders Esq / Captain Royal Navy / by his Co-Adventurers / in the Providence Mines / Parish of Uny Lelant, County of Cornwall / As a Testimony of their sense of the unremitting / Zeal & Ability with which he has fulfilled / the Duties of Comptroller / of these Mines / for a period of 15 Years / May 1850”. Fully marked. Overall dimensions (with baskets): H 26 x W 18 1/8 x D 17 1/4 in. Heavy weight (silver only): 127 troy ounces.
