Antique Swedish Silver Cream Boat / Gravy Boat by Wigren

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Swedish silver cream boat/ gravy boat; an addition to our silver dining collection. This exceptional antique Swedish 830 standard silver cream boat has a plain oval rounded form onto three bracket style feet. The body of this impressive piece is embellished with embossed lobed channels eminating from the posterior portion. The plain upper portion features an irregular scalloped shaped rim. The cream boat is fitted with a plain scrolling handle ornamented with an impressive applied and chased leaf decorated thumbpiece, continuing across the upper socket to the scrolling posterior portion of the body. This impressive example of 19th century silverware is supported by three impressive bracket style feet ornamented with layered chased leaf decoration. The cream boat retains the original gilded interior; the gilt interior, in addition to the country of origin, determines the nature of this piece as a cream boat and not a sauceboat. The hallmarks to the underside of this impressive cream boat include: Makers mark: Wigren. Silver quality/purity mark: Three Crowns National mark (Swedish, .830, 830/1000). Town mark: Crowned head (Stockholm). Date mark: U4 (1850). Condition This antique Swedish cream boat is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. There are some natural fire marks to the surface of the vessel, in keeping with age. The gilding to the interior of this cream boat shows little signs of wear. The Swedish hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are all very clear. Dimensions Length from back of handle to tip of lip 16cm/6.3". Width 8.5cm/3.3". Height to top of handle 8.5cm/3.3".     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver creamer in the Rococo style; an addition to our Edwardian silverware collection. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver cream jug has a plain pear shaped form. The body of this silver cream jug is embellished with flat chased simplified leaf designs incorporating scrolling borders and scale motif panels, in the Rococo style. The decoration to the body incorporates an applied moulded border to the upper shaped rim and an impressive scrolling leaf design to the underside of the spout. The formation of this Edwardian piece reflects an early Georgian design and style often associated with the renowned silversmith Paul de Lamerie.
