2 Mid-Century Modern Chemex Pour Over Coffeemakers, Peter Schlumbohm with Warmer
$695per set

About
Amazing pair of Mid-Century Modern Chemex pour over coffeemakers designed by Peter Schlumbohm and 2 vintage brass warmers. This pair consists of a 6 cup and 8 cup capacity carafe. They are in wonderful vintage condition. The wood collars do show some signs of use but do not detract from their use or beauty. The brass warmers have been cleaned with soap and water only and retain their original beautiful patina. Please see photos. Carafes designed circa 1941 but manufacture date of this pair is unknown. The warmers are circa mid-20th century.
NOTE: The price is for all four pieces: 2 carafes and 2 warmers
The perfect pair! And ironically, we came across the carafes separate from the warmers…and they fit exactly. The carafes of course are Chemex designed in 1941 by Peter Schlumbohm. One is a 6-cup capacity and the other an 8 cup. Their classic hourglass shape with wood collar and leather ties are absolutely beautiful in their simplicity. Schlumbohm was inspired by the Bauhaus school of design in the creation of this coffeemaker and looked to Pyrex to manufacture. His design was hailed as iconic when created and is held in the permanent collections at the Brooklyn Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, and MOMA NY. His concern, being a chemist, was first with the “flavor” of the coffee which led him to this simple form and material. The brass warmers are not marked in any way but fit the pots perfectly. They are fitted with glass cups to hold the warming candle. These glass cups are marked with the Federal Glass logo. Now you have the opportunity to own not only one but two Chemex pots. You will not have to make the hard choice whether to keep it in the kitchen or your master bedroom or rec room!
Peter Schlumbohm (1896-1962) was a German chemist and inventor who immigrated to the United States in 1935. Not only did he create the famous Chemex coffeemaker, inspired by Bauhaus design and in form by laboratory equipment such as the Erlenmeyer flask, he held some 300 plus additional patents ranging from cocktail shakers to automobiles. He founded the Chemex Corporation which has been a family owned company for over 30 years.
The Chemex carafe was featured on James Bond’s breakfast tray in From Russia with Love. Be like Bond….make this double set yours!
