About

A very fine antique Minton majolica pottery handled pedestal chestnut dish dated 1867. The dish stands on a rounded pedestal foot the edge molded in relief with petal designs supporting a rounded bowl with a curled handle to one side and with partial cover to the top applied in relief with an open chestnut. The underside of the bowl is brown glazed with a slight textured stipple finish and has a rounded flat edge also applied with small fruiting leaf designs in relief. The partial cover is formed in relief with overlaid chestnut leaves with a stalk bearing a nut applied around the handle. The chestnut dish is hand painted in typical majolica style in tones of green, brown and yellow with the inner bowl and base decorated in bright turquoise glazes. The dish has impressed MINTON marks to the base along with several other marks and includes a date mark for 1867. In very good condition.
