20th Century, Art Deco Age, Glazed Large Ceramic Basin, Villeroy & Boch

About the Item

1930s circa glazed large ceramic basin by Villeroy & Boch , Mettlach , Germany External gilt profiling decorative . On the upper edge two handles are shaped to facilitate the movement of the piece . The piece is intact and free from breakage, chipping and restoration. About the Villeroy & Boch Villeroy & Boch AG is a German manufacturer of ceramics and household items. Founded in 1748, the company is based in Mettlach. In 1748 Jean-François Boch opened a ceramic workshop in Audun-le-Tiche, in Lorraine, and in 1767 with his brother Pierre-Joseph Boch founded Jean-François Boch et Frères, at Septfontaines, in Luxembourg . In 1809 Boch introduced the Industrial Production of ceramics in the new laboratory in Mettlach, in the Saarland, while his brother developed one of the first insurance programs for workers, the Antonius Guild (1912) . In 1789 Nicholas Villeroy founded a decoration workshop in Wallerfangen . In order to compete with imports from England, in 1836 the two companies merged, giving life to Villeroy and Boch.
