Early Cream Boat, Worcester, circa 1753

About the Item

A small, early boat of rare oval form, the more usual being the hexagonal. Appealingly naïve polychrome decoration of the period, possibly done outside the factory at one of the enamelling works. The early Worcester body was particularly beautiful, but only suited to small pieces such as this. Although this was no doubt a source of frustration to Dr Wall, the result is that the pieces that come down to us from this period are tiny gems of the potter's art.
