19th Century Japan, a Large Pair of Porcelain Dishes with Blue Koï Carps

A magnificent large pair of 19th century Japan porcelain dishes, depicting Koï carps in hand painted in underglaze blue cobalt color. Beautiful work by Arita porcelain manufactures, probably Meiji period, mid-19th century. Measurment: Diameter 19.65 In. Our pair of porcelain plates are in excellent condition, Arita: is a town located in Nishimatsuura District, Saga Prefecture, Japan. It is known for producing Arita Porcelain, one of the traditional handicrafts of Japan. It also holds the largest ceramic fair in Western Japan, the Arita Ceramic Fair. Arita was one of the first sites in Japan to produce porcelain, Arita ware. The discovery of porcelain stone is attributed to a Korean potter named Kanagae Samba, although most historians consider this a legend.
