About

Presenting a gorgeous and rare matching pair, namely, a 19th century Sevres Porcelain trinket box with ring tray. The trinket box os a very good size and has gilt edging and overlay throughout. The central hand painted medallion on the lid is that of a male courtier serendatinf a female courier in a garden scene. It is signed by the painter “A. Max” on the bottom left. It is surrounded by 22-carat gold overlay of wreaths and swags. The lid is connected to the base with gilt ormolu mounting with click clasp. The lid opens to reveal another hand painted floral medallion. The sides, back and front likewise have a gold floral overlay medallion. The ‘ring tray’ is a matching piece and has always spent its life with the box. Whilst it has a slightly different hand painted scene as its central medallion it was also painted by ‘A. Max” and is likewise signed by the artist. It has the same color as the trinket box, namely a very unusual tangerine red color. It has hand painted gold edging around the central painting. Both pieces are properly marked for the ‘Sevres’ factory, namely the crossed ‘L’s. Made in France circa 1860 these are extremely high quality items!! Provenance: From a Private Dallas collection. Condition: Excellent for their age. The box is almost mint, with some very minor buckling to the interior rear ormolu mounts near the hinge, but not significant enough to devalue the piece in any way. The ring tray has some very minor rubbing and 2 very minor scratches that are clearly visible in the photos, but again, not significant enough to devalue the piece. Dimensions: Box 7.25? wide, 2.75? tall and 4? deep Tray 4.75? wide, 0.5? tall and 3.2? deep.
