Georgian Mason's Ironstone Large Platter in Vase and Rock Pattern, Circa 1815

US$1,013.90

About

This a large, early 19th century platter of about 18 inch width made by Mason's Ironstone in the Vase and Rock hand-painted pattern, circa 1815. A very decorative and distinctive piece. Very early 19th century Mason's Ironstone platters are rare and this is a Fine heavy example in good condition. This platter has a decorative moulded rope twist edge, with flowers and these edges are normally seen on Desert Plates. This platter is beautifully hand decorated with one of Mason's bold chinoiserie patterns called the Vase and Rock pattern (sometimes known as Peking Vase), with much hand enamelling in typical bold colorful enamels, as illustrated on Page 105 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848". It carries one of the earliest impressed marks to the base rim; MASON's PATENT Ironstone China, in a straight line, dating this piece to the English George 111rd period, of circa 1815. Early Masons pieces tend to be heavier and this pieces weighs over 2.5 Kg unpacked.
