Mid-Century Modern Eugene Deutch Glazed Ceramic Pitcher

US$795

About

This glazed ceramic pitcher was made by noted Hungarian-born studio potter Eugene Deutch (1904-1959). Deutch studied under modernist sculptor Constantin Brancusi in Paris before emigrating to the United States and establishing a studio in Chicago. His work was exhibited in solo shows at the Dallas museum of art and the art institute of Chicago among others, and is held in the permanent collections of several museums and private collections. This Deutch modernist pitcher has been finished in a rich brown glaze with green undertones beneath the spout. The biomorphic design marries form with function and features pinched sides intended to replace the need for a separate handle. The underside of the piece is signed E. Deutch in script and dated 1951. This ceramic pitcher displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of American art pottery. An iconic piece from a highly regarded and influential artist.
