Antique Sterling Silver Mother of Pearl Fruit/Dessert Service for Six Persons

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver and mother of pearl handled fruit/dessert service for six persons - boxed; an addition to our silver flatware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and mother of pearl fruit/dessert service for six persons consists of six fruit knives and six fruit forks. The impressive sabre style knife blades have a broad incurved shaped form, and the forks have three tines with a rounded, baluster shaped shaft. The anterior surface of each knife blade is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved scrolling leaf and foliate decoration, accented with a plain paralleling border to one side; the posterior surface is plain and unembellished. Each piece of this fruit cutlery set is fitted with the original and impressive pistol grip mother of pearl handles. The handles are each ornamented with paralleling borders to the shaped rims. The hallmarked ferrule to each piece is encircled with embossed leaf decoration. Each piece of this mother of pearl cutlery service is fitted to the original double hinged serpentine-shaped leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a hinged catch. This is an exceptional set with desirable handles. Condition: This antique mother or pearl cutlery service is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the anterior surface of each knife and surface of each fork, in addition to part hallmarks to the ferrules are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of each item of antique silverware. This magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver and mother of pearl dessert service consists of eighteen knives and eighteen forks. The blades of the Victorian knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs. The surface of each knife blade and drop of each fork is embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest of on a mural crown with a heron's head erased. Each piece of this antique silver dessert service is fitted with the original and impressive, large tapering mother of pearl handle. The knives and forks retain the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with embossed leaf ornamentation.
