Luneville Faïence Aesthetic Movement Japonisme Oil & Vinegar Cruets in Stand

About the Item

A Luneville faïence earthenware five-piece set decorated freely in the aesthetic taste with a Japonisme theme, oil and vinegar cruets in a pierce-work stand, France, circa 1870. Transfer printed images of Asian figures, foliage, and birds in sepia on a creamy white ground. The stand has openings for the bottles and for keeping the lids during pouring. The cruets are marked V and H for Huile et Vinaigre, French for Oil and Vinegar. Marked: Ecrans Luneville. Measures: Stand, 8 in. L x 5 in. H x 2.5 in. W. Cruets, 6 in. height x 3 in. diameter. Small flea bites seen to the cruet lids. The expected light wear one finds in faïence pottery.
