  • Unique Green Ceramic Vase by Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
    By Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
    Located in New York, NY
Organic Vase, 2015, (Ceramic, C. 12.1 in. h x 7.5 in. d, Object No.: 3389). Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form and as an independent sculptural object. As Turi notes “working in clay is to me connected with many underlying cultural bound references, but also strongly connected to nature. The very process of building in clay is a process from nature to culture. We have an inherent understanding of beauty and design evolved in thousands of years of visual impressions from our cultural history, but especially also from nature. In this context, I am aiming to create a visual and emotional reading of the objects, working with shape, rhythm, volume, movement, and texture”. In the interplay between culture and nature, Turi’s works are inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes. Most of her faceted shapes seem to have a seed of coincidence or unplanned development, reminding one of crystal formations growing in irregular clusters.? Heisselberg Pedersen’s sculptures are hand-modeled from stoneware and glazed with slip-glazes, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of Turi’s designs...

Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form and as an independent sculptural object. Heisselberg Pedersen’s sculptures are hand-modeled from stoneware and glazed with slip-glazes, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of Turi’s designs have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and freshness of the clay. Turi Heisselberg Pedersen was born in Denmark in 1965. She was educated at the prestigious Design School Kolding, Denmark and lives and works in Copenhagen. She has been lecturing at Kolding School of Design from 1994 – 2007 and is the Co-founder of the “Exhibition Room for New Ceramics...

  • Rollmann, Unique Ceramic Vessel by Corinna Friedrich
    By Corinna Friedrich
    Located in New York, NY
Rollmann, 2020 (Ceramic, C. 10.7 in. h x 8 in. diam. Object No.: 3819) The ceramic artist Corinna Petra Friedrich lives and works in Leipzig, Germany, where she studied painting, graphic design, and ceramics at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts. The artist creates her inspiring works of art in a reverse technique, first developing the decor, then the form. She prepares the clay by forming slabs, and subsequently applies with screen printing techniques the decor to the surfaces of the slabs, retaining the option of using engobe and monotype. The ceramic slabs she has prepared in this ingenious method are the raw material for her unique vessels. The patchwork of cut-out clay elements with their lively and experimental combination of graphic patterns and colors are assembled to build surprisingly playful vessels and...
