Gustavo Pérez High Temperature Ceramic Vase

About the Item

High temperature ceramic vessel by Gustavo Pérez. The cone-shaped vase has black interior and sand color exterior. The exterior is decorated with bas-relief black lines. Hand-crafted one-of-a-kind vase numbered 543 and dated 1992. Gustavo Pérez (1950) was born in Mexico City. In 1971, he was admitted to the School of Design and Crafts (EDA). In 1980 he acquired a scholarship to study for two years at the Saint Joost Academy in Breda, Holland. From 1982 to 1983 he worked as a guest at the workshop of Sint Paulus Abdij in Oosterhout, Netherlands. Back in Mexico (1992) he built his own workshop in Zoncuantla, near the city of Xalapa, in Mexico. In 1997 he worked as a resident artist at the Institute of Ceramic Studies of Shigaraki, Japan. From 2007-2010 he worked as a guest artist at the Manufacture de Sèvres in Paris, France. He has been invited on numerous occasions to teach around Mexico, Europe and South America. Since 1994 he has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and since 2006 he has been a member of its Council. In 2011, an important retrospective exhibition has held at the Palace of Fine Arts. In 2012 he got the National Ceramics Award. His work has been exhibited individually or collectively in Mexico. United States, Europe, Japan and Korea.
