About

A very rare stoneware saltglaze teapot with overall quality enamel decoration and showing a portrait along with the title "Fred.Prussia Rex" from England, mid-18th century. Dated: 1760 Staffordshire England. The reverse of the teapot depicts the coat of arms of the King with the Latin motto "Semper Sublimis". The cover is decorated with two panels of flowers and has a flower head finial. The teapot was made to commemorate the alliance with Britain and Prussia probably at the end of the seven years war. The piece is previously unrecorded. Dimensions: 7.50 inch wide 4.50 inch high 4.75 inch deep Medium: stoneware saltglaze pottery ceramic Current Condition Excellent restoration to lid and break in handle. Literature: Page 163 Edwards and Hampson work titled White Salt-glazed STONEWARE of the British Isles makes reference to a similarly themed teapot which was destined for the American market.
