Mason's Ironstone Sandwich Plate or Dish box & vase Chinoiserie Ptn, Circa 1840

US$314.07

About

This is a sandwich dish or plate by Mason's Ironstone, England, dating to the first half of the 19th Century, Circa 1940. These dishes are fairly rare, having a moulded and slightly fluted square shape. This dish is decorated in the Vase and Box pattern, which is one of Mason's Chinoiserie designs , documented on page 114 of A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Masons Collectors' Club. The pattern would have been transfer printed then hand painted in different bold coloured enamels. The base of the plate has an angular crown mark and banner, with Mason's above, printed in black, with 223 hand painted in iron red on the inner foot rim, which relates to the painter or pattern series. This plate dates to the mid-19th century, circa 1840.
