Large Georgian Mason's Ironstone Serving Dish Bamboo & Basket Pattern circa 1815

US$738.69

About

This a large, early 19th century serving dish of 14.5 inch width made by Mason's Ironstone in the Bamboo and Basket chinoiserie pattern, dating to the English Georgian period, Circa 1815. Very early 19th century Mason's Ironstone Serving Dishes are rare and this is a Fine heavy example in very good condition. This large Dish is beautifully hand decorated with one of Mason's bold chinoiserie patterns called the Bamboo and Basket pattern, with much hand enamelling in typical colourful enamels, over a blue printed outline, as illustrated on Page 106 of A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns circa 1813 to circa 1848. The pattern also has some hand gilded detail. The piece carries three recognised Mason's marks; 1) one of the earliest impressed marks; MASON's PATENT Ironstone China, in a line 2) An early wide spaced Mason's printed mark in blue, with the crown and banner 3) An impressed Coat of Arms mark with Lion & Unicorn & Patent Ironstone China All dating this piece to 1815 to 1820. Having three marks on one piece is unusual and the impressed Coat Of Arms mark is rare.
