Female Oriental Figurine Wearing Costume: Odalisque (CALLED 'AIDA') Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892-1950) / one of most important designers having been active for Goldscheider manufactory in period of 1920-1940 / designed, circa 1923-1924. Made circa 1925-1930 Model number 5281 / 888 / 15 Hallmarked: Goldscheider WIEN (= VIENNA) stamp mark existing. Made in Austria and hand-decorated / painter's as well as modeller's sign visible Subject: Stunning Lady Figurine Of Arab Style / Odalisque Called 'aida', Too - Based On The Well-known Opera By Verdi, Telling The Bad Fortune Of The Ethiopian Princess Aida Having Become A Slave. An odalisque was a female slave in an Ottoman noble household. She was an assistant or apprentice to the concubines and wives. Most odalisques were part of the Imperial Harem (= the household of the Turkish Sultan). This figurine is of highest quality due to the excellent painting of the lady's garments as well as of the figurine's fine appearance: The lady's cape (which is laid over her head falling down over her shoulders) is excellently painted with stylized leaves' & flowers' patterns. The odalisque is wearing a pair of red Arab trousers / the upper part of her body is covered with a bikini-like garment. The lady's features are very handsome: She has a pretty nose, red cheeks and excellently shaped lips. Aida is looking down towards earth. - The Figurine Is Based On Greyish-cream White Ovoid and Tiered Socle.
