George Jones Majolica 10-ins turquoise blue eight well oyster plate, English, circa 1874, with various seaweeds on a turquoise glazed ground, with a raised naturalistic oyster shell glazed in white, with rare pink glazed border, the reverse with simulated tortoiseshell mottling, impressed British Registry Mark for 13 September 1874, impressed 'GJ' monogram, black painted pattern number to reserve '3401' which corresponds to 'Oyster Plate, turq gr. [ground], pink shell centre' in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Books in the Wedgwood Archive. This model came in three sizes, five wells 7.5ins, six wells 8ins, and eight wells 10ins (this one). In excellent antique condition, with no damage, repairs, or restoration. Very fine typical age-related crazing only.
