George Jones Majolica Cobalt blue wheat pitcher with pewter lid, English circa 1873, the body molded with acanthus leaves glazed in varying shades of green, with naturalistically glazed green and yellow wheat sheaves, with yellow glazed roping to the branch handle and base, on a cobalt blue glazed ground, with turquoise glazed interior, and pink glazed bottom, with a perfectly fitting pewter lid. Painted pattern number '1806,' which corresponds to 'Jug, Cobalt Ground with Long Green Leaves, Ears of Wheat and Inverted Acanthus Leaves,' in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Books preserved in the Wedgwood Archives, Wedgwood Museum, Barlaston, England, and partially reprinted in Robert Cluett's George Jones Ceramics.* The painted number '3' is a ground color designation, for cobalt blue.
