US$695

About

Delightful ceramic jug by Gustave Reynaud, Vallauris, France, c. 1960. Signed on the underside. This decorative jug is cylindrical in shape and hand-painted in Reynaud's signature style replete with abstract foliage executed against the larger backdrop of a black, green, and earthen red linear design. Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree) in Vallauris in 1955 and produced crockery designed by his brother-in-law Jean Derval as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter, J-F Descombes, and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village in the French Riviera. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
