Impressive Victorian Silver Pedestal Bowl

US$11,137.46

About

A stunning antique silver bowl or jardinière, based on a classical style with a round pedestal base and oval boat-shaped dish. It is hand-chased with bas-relief entwined leaf and flower decoration and has two scrolling handles cast as stylized acanthus leaves. It looks particularly beautiful as a silver table centrepiece filled with flowers or fruit. It weighs 54 troy oz (1689g) Possibly the oldest manufacturing silversmith in the world, Barnard Brothers made pieces of the finest order. The large silver-gilt baptismal font used at the baptisms of members of the British Royal Family is a fine example of their work.
