Porcelain Vase Green Gold by Contemporary Japanese Master Artist

About the Item

Extraordinary contemporary porcelain vase in green and gold, a masterpiece by a highly celebrated second generation porcelain artist of the Kutani region of Japan. Still active in his eighties, the artist’s works have been added to the permanent collections of a wide range of museums around the world, including the Smithsonian’s Sackler Gallery (1993) and the Uzbekistan Museum of Applied Arts (2005). For his lifelong contributions to porcelain arts, the artist was decorated with the Japanese government’s Order of the Sacred Treasure (2005). The artist’s profile is available on request. Extraordinary contemporary hand painted porcelain vase features a beautiful raised garden scene set against a khaki background. Fine gold lines accentuate the foliage and the neck of the vase, adding to the striking opulence of the piece. The khaki background is applied using the traditional technique of fuki-zumi (mouth-blown spray). Now increasingly difficult to find, the fuki-zumi technique creates unpredictable patterns of subtle gradation that generate a layered canvas for the overglaze enameling. This hand-painted porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 10.5 in, D 10 in.
