Peter Voulkos Studio Vase
About the Item
Peter Voulkos (1924-2002) - Black Studio pot, circa 1953-1955.
Signed “Voulkos” on the base.
Voulkos, an American artist of Greek descent, was known for his Abstract Expressionist ceramic sculptures and fine art studio pottery. He studied at the California College of Fine Arts and Montana University. He was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship for Creative Arts.
Long before Voulkos was known for Expressionist pottery he was classically trained and threw this perfect pot. I purchased it through one of his contemporaries, Jane Heald, and have had it in my personal collection
for over twenty years.
