Late 18th Century, Greek Classic Enameled Terracotta Vase Ceramiche di Este

About the Item

Greek Classic enameled terracotta vase by Ceramiche di Este, circa 1780-1820 attributtable ex Manifattura Franchini About Ceramica di Este The porcelain of Este is a porcelain produced between 1765 and the late 18th century in some factories of the city of Este. The production of porcelain in Este was implanted by artisans from the Nove manufactory. In 1765 Giovanni Battista Brunello began to produce soft-paste porcelain in his Majolica manufacture at the Ponte della Girometta, using workers who had illegally transferred from the Nove factory. And therefore he suffered a trial. He died in 1778. In 1778 the goldsmith and sculptor Gerolamo Franchini founded a porcelain factory in Borgo Schiavin and took as his partner the French modeler Jean-Pierre Varillon (Italianised in Giovanni Pietro Varion). The manufacture excelled in the modeled Rococo style , in which he made figurines and centerpiece groups. In 1780 or 1781 Varion died and after a few years Franchini stopped producing porcelain, but the manufacture continued as a ceramic and Majolica factory Measures cm: H27 Diam. 15.
