About the Item

Extraordinary large Japanese contemporary decorative porcelain vase, strikingly hand-painted in vivid blue, red, pink and cream with generous gold details, on a stunningly shaped body in pure white. It is a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed award-winning master porcelain artist of Imari-Arita region of Japan. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. His profile is available upon request. This Magnificent vase reflects the spirit of the Genroku era with its use of deep colors and lavish application of gold and the design covering the entire surface. Ko-Imari is the attractive style that started its popularity in Europe in the 17th century. In the arabesque or karakusa pattern the plants are intertwined. The foliage extending in all directions without interruption make this beloved auspicious pattern the symbol of longevity and prosperity. The two panels with striking bold peonies in red, pink and gold are separated by elegant scalopped panels on a mesmerizing red background. The top of the vase is adorned with a breathtaking wide band with a peony motif and a scalloped border on the same red background. The strong contrast of red and white backgrounds, the striking flowers, the generous application of gold, the size and the elegant shape, create an awe-inspiring piece that attract the viewer to get closer and enjoy the details. This exquisite large porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 14.5 in D 13.5 in “Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings.
