Igbo Bottle form Vase

About

This tall, bottle-necked vase was created by an artisan of the Igbo People of Nigeria. Bottle forms, once common in pre-historic West African ceramics, are rare in the historic record. An elongated neck meets the oblong body with a slight ridge, mirrored below where etched decoration turns into a textured underside. With graceful proportions and a rich surface, this bottle vase is an understated display of the potter's exquisite skill and aesthetic sense.
