French Art Nouveau Crystalline Vase with Pine Cones Denbac Pottery Vierzon

About the Item

A French art pottery vase in the Art Nouveau style from La Société Denert et Balichon, known as Denbac Pottery of Vierzon, dating circa 1930. Denbac's grès flammés (flamed sandstone) glazes are unique to every piece and this vessel is decorated in a color palette of complimentary neutrals in shades of green and grey with hints of blue and a brown drip glaze trailing down the body. Micro-crystalline clusters, resembling leopard spots, create a lustrous metallic sheen. The molded vase has four ribs buttressing the neck and four stylized pinecone ornaments just below the collar. The vase is in very good condition bearing an impressed "Denbac" mark in script underfoot, measuring 11.25 in. H. Denbac is the brand name for the Denert and Balichon Company of Vierzon in central France. The Denbac name is a contraction of the partners surnames, ceramist René Denert and manager René-Louis Balichon.
