Sculptural and functional handmade ceramic vase made by Karen Boel, Denmark 1960s.
Both shape, geometric figures and the different stonewear methods are just outstanding.
Cubism meets modernism and has an expression from the bohemian style as well. It is straight forward and then twisted because of the brutalist center piece. It is naked burned ceramic and on the other side beautiful thick layer of glaze. It is sculptural and yet functional - it just has it all.
Only a brilliant mind and extremely good ceramist like Karen Boel can mesmerize you with a stunning piece like this.
So, it doesn’t need any flowers or branches to keep ones attention.
