Large 18th Century French Tole Urn
About the Item
This large decorative tole urn was made in France, circa 1780 . The elongated form is topped with a cascading series of icicle shapes that again appear at the shoulder of the urn.
At the socal of the urn, a series of palm leaves encircle the form raised from the ground. The whole is set up on a typical rounded spreading bull nose rimmed base. The body of the urn is marbelized with the top and base of a deep green ground color and all the raised sections and decorative areas picked out in a light green and a saffron-colored paint. The surface has a lovely old patina and a large amount of the color and decoration remains giving a deep contrast making the urn very desirable.
