Antique Arts & Crafts Style Sterling Silver Jardinière or Bowl, 1916



An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver jardinière or bowl made by A E Jones in the Arts & Crafts style, an addition to our range of collectable silverware. This fine antique George V sterling silver jardinière has a circular rounded form. The surface of the bowl has a subtly planished finish in the Arts & Crafts style. The upper portion of this jardinière or bowl is embellished with a band of embossed and chased iconic Arts & Crafts style stylized leaf and Tudor rose designs. This impressive example of antique silverware is encompassed with an applied moulded border to the upper rim. This antique jardinière is supported by four plain tapering hexagonal paneled pillar style supports terminating with swept feet. This iconic Arts & Crafts silver bowl was crafted by the renowned and collectable silversmith A E Jones. The Tudor rose, also known as the Union rose, is a traditional heraldic emblem pertaining to England. The conjoined design of the red rose (House of Lancaster) with the white rose (House of York) to the center was created by Henry VII in the late 15th century as unification of the two houses after his marriage to Elizabeth of York. Condition This George V silver bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body have wear in keeping with age and location, but remain legible. Dimensions Diameter of rim 17.2cm/6.8". Diameter of body 17.9cm/7".
