A finely carved and finished alabaster grand tour copy of the classical statue of the Cretan princess Ariadne, wife of the god of wine Dionysus and mistress of the Labyrinth seated on the big cat in a relaxed pose . von Dannecker was appointed court sculptor to the Duke of Württemberg in 1780 though this work begun in 1803 was not a commission from the duke..The sculpture expresses the idea of »wildness tamed by beauty and was considered his most famous work
