"Polo Player, " Classic and Rare Art Deco Sculpture in Caramel Hue by Gregory

About the Item

One of the rarest and most classic Art Deco sculptures ever produced in 1930s America, this striking Polo Player, complete with his original polo mallet, was sculpted by Waylande Gregory. Prodigious and indefatigable, Gregory produced a wide range of sculptures and wares in ceramic beginning in his college days, through his years working with Lorado Taft and later when he created large multi-figure pieces for WPA projects, institutions and public parks. He also produced a famous fountain group for the 1939-1940 World's Fair in New York.
