Pair of 17th Century Italian Baroque Giltwood Putti Figures

About the Item

Magnificent and enormous pair of 17th century Italian Baroque period carved giltwood putti wall figures. The pair maintained its original gilding and condition. The carver was successful in catching the putti in mid-flight movement. The carver portrayed very pleasing and appealing features on these putti's faces, contrary to the exaggerated style of the Baroque period. This beautiful and finely carved pair of putti, otherwise known as cherubs, was likely used to decorate a church or sacred space. Putti are usually depicted naked but these are partially covered in flowing garments. They are the symbol of love and became common during the Italian Renaissance. This pair is especially unique due to large size. Dimensions for right: H. 35" x W. 18" x D. 13" Dimensions for left: H. 35" x W. 23" x D. 12".
