Modern Bronze Figure by Manuel Fernandez

About the Item

Cast Bronze work by Paris based artist and sculptor Manuel Fernandez entitled “The Walker” cast in 2001. The original single work, done in 2000, has a solid cast bronze slab base as part of the work's body and here the work has been reinterpreted by the artist without this heavy section leaving just the feet as the contact point enhancing the works forward movement and point of transition scene in the forms shifting plains and dynamic tension of feeling. Fernandez is a world-class artist with his pieces viewable in a number of galleries and museum collections worldwide including besides his native Europe, Asia and in the USA. Seen in a large number of multiple artist shows devoted to modernism in art of particular note are his many exhibition credits for one-man shows including the Grand Palais Paris, Atelier Montueil, Saint Germain des Angels and Thuillier Gallery Paris. He is quoted when speaking of his sculptures that “They represent a block of thought in transition. The medium of Bronze is convulsed into exploring that moment when creation and the continuous discarding of life as we are in constant motion is captured into solid reality.” His works hold close visual aspects associated with early Italian Futurist esthetics as well as the cubist movement in Paris 1920s and in particular Raymond Duchamp-Villon. The bronze represented here is in excellent condition with a very nice patina. This work is one of the artist's most acclaimed pieces and has been a standard in his many exhibits.. It bears the artist stamp and is numbered 1 of 9. The figure is mounted on a very lovely French oak block setting the contrast of material and color off nicely. The block bears the Atelier stamp and paper label of the artist.
