19th century Lao Buddha statue. Folk Art figure representation of Buddha. A solid wood block carving with remnants of pigments. To collectors Lao Buddha figures are coveted and sought after for their individual none refined quality. Lao Folk Art Buddha wood carvings have a special charm owing to the very basic techniques used to make them. They are a commonplace beauty created to serve the needs of the social majority not those of an elite. These Lao Folk Art Buddha carvings are noted as a pure folk art with an innocence rarely found in refined and sophisticated Buddha castings. They were created from the heart of the people who produced them and radiate with this purpose. Thus having very special and individual characteristics unlike other Asian Folk Art Buddhas that tend to follow their regional styles. This piece has remnants of a prayer blessing written across the face of the base.
